Incorporating Logic Programming Techniques for Improving the Thermal Comfort of a Building

To produce an acceptable level of thermal comfort for a given space of a building, architects must take into consideration a number of paramaters taking part in a complex mathematical formula which calculates the Predicted Mean Vote of the space. The selection of appropriate values is not easy and depends on an architect’s priorities, as well as preferred intervals of values of the input paramaters. A strategy which takes into consideration all these issues has been developed using Logic Programming techniques. The strategy locates an optimised PMV value, inside a user defined PMV interval, using a stepwise approximation algorithm with priorities over the input parameters.
